8 Things Most People Take A Lifetime To Learn

Lifetime hourglass

Life is an ongoing lesson, think of it as a daily, perpetual classroom. You never stop learning, even the most successful, intelligent people are constantly learning new things.

The brain is a fascinating thing, when you learn more, the brain produces more neurons. Two thumb sized structures buried deep in the center of the brain are responsible for how efficiently we learn and remember, these structures are called hippocampus; the Greek word for seahorse.

You can strengthen and develop your hippocampus over time by exercising and reading, by learning and experiencing more.

Studies have shown that the brain produces 700 new neurons each day however, these neurons die rapidly. To keep the brain strong and healthy, you need to learn and read often, challenge the brain, experience new things, new people and new environments.

There are many things that people take a whole lifetime to learn, things that seem basic and simple can be very difficult to grasp. In this article, we are going to talk about eight things that most people take a lifetime to get to grips with. It does not have to be this way though, if you live consciously and intentionally, you can quickly learn these things when you are young.

Let’s begin, what are some of the things that people struggle to learn in their lives?

1. To Learn From Failure

Often people struggle to recognize the lessons they need to learn when they fail. This poignant Henry Ford quote highlights the importance of recognizing failure as a teaching mechanism rather than a final destination that you can never return from.

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Henry Ford

In every failure there is a lesson, no success story will ever exist without failure. Failure is a lesson in disguise. However, most people do not realize this until later on in life. Often children are scolded when they fail and praised and rewarded when they succeed.

Nonetheless if we teach our children to identify the lesson when they fail, they would understand how important failure is. When you fail, it provides with the opportunity to reevaluate the situation and start again with fresh eyes.

2. Live Your Life For Yourself

live for yourself

Many people live their lives to impress other people, or to please other people. As you get older you realize that life is not about impressing other people, you ultimately have to please yourself.

Focusing on what other people think of you will only leave you feeling drained and unhappy. However, if you live your life for yourself, you will fulfill all the dreams you want to fulfill for yourself not for other people.

Often people only realize this when they get older. Live your life for you, when you do this, you will attract your tribe, people that love you for you, instead of people who only like you because you are living life by their rules.

3. Don’t Work Too Hard

working too hard

Hard work is essential if you want to succeed in life. However, working too hard is not healthy, it can essentially damage your health. Especially if you are working 18 hour a day and not getting enough sleep. Sleep is vital, lack of sleep can have a significant impact on your overall health.

When you do not get enough sleep, it reduces the amount of human growth hormone that your body releases. Human growth hormone promotes a healthy metabolism, enhances physical performance and studies have shown that it helps you live longer. 75% of the body’s daily human growth hormone is released during sleep.

Therefore, if you are not getting at least eight hours of sleep a day, you reduce the amount of human growth hormone that your body releases. Therefore, sleep is essential for overall health. Working too hard and losing sleep is certainly not a good thing.

Most people learn that working too hard is not healthy later on in life, the best thing is to work smarter not harder.

4. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

actions

If you want to create lasting, meaningful relationships and friendships, follow through on what you say. Or, better still, act more than you speak.

People will trust you when you follow through and do exactly what you said you would do. Trust is an important element of long lasting friendships and relationships.

If you speak and do not follow through, you break the trust that you have built.

5. Live With No Regrets

regrets memories

Living with no regrets is important, instead of thinking about the past and dwelling on every little thing that you did not do, focus on the good things in your life and live in the moment.

Living life with regret will render you unproductive and full of unhappiness and regret, live your life to the fullest by forgetting about the past and living in the moment instead.

6. Don’t Dwell On The Small Things

Many people spend most of their lives dwelling on small insignificant things that mean nothing. Instead of focusing on the small things, focus on the important things.

7. Spend More Time With Family

family

In the midst of working to make a living, we often forget about the most important people in our lives, family. Majority of the time, family will be there when you need them, they will give you the strength you need when you are feeling weak, family are your backbone.

Many spend years ignoring family to achieve goals or build wealth, they often forget that you can never be fully rich without family by your side.

8. Be Grateful

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”Melody Beattie

Spending your life complaining and refusing to accept or acknowledge your blessings is a waste of your time. Be grateful, give thanks for all that you have and focus on the positive things, forget about the negative.

Just like the quote above states, gratitude adds fullness to your life, it turns confusion to clarity and a meal into a feast. When you look at the good things in your life and give thanks, you will live in abundance regardless of your circumstances.

Do not wait until you are old and gray before you start learning how to live life to the fullest. In order for you to live a healthy, happy life you need to learn some valuable lessons like the lessons outlined in this article. Assimilate the information and implement some of the lessons in your own life.

I think, that the paragraph, about the life with no regrets, is wrong. I believe, regrets help us to reconsider past mistakes, to prevent them in future.
